After a short break Ariana Grande has decided to surprise her fans on 14th October 2020 with her tweet "i can't wait to give u my album this month" which many fans thought was a fanmade edit, but when they found out it was real, the whole world moved.

Ariana has decided to put out her lead single "positions" on 23th October 2020. The whole world knew what was about to come after they heard the lead single. There were many reports some fans didn't survive the wave (listening to new single + watching the music video) and sadly passed out. Thankfully they woke up and got the chance to pass out once again, when the album got released on 30th October 2020. It wouldn't be an ariana album, if it didn't leak before release and that happened on monday 26th October 2020. The album was not an instant bop, it has grower potential.

Shortly after album has been released a snippet of 34+35 remix with Doja Cat has leaked. Some days later Doja Cat decided to leak her full verse on her instagram live

Many fans we're complaining if remix or unreleased demo is going to get leaked or released.

Then in January 2021 we've received 34+35 remix featuring Doja Cat & Megan Thee Stallion, which became a successful hit and i think it slays til' now, which led to deluxe version of Positions album on 19th February 2021, including 4 new tracks.

I think there was enough of talking, let's review the tracks (i will be using my own opinions and basic info, i won't be re-writing something off internet, you can google it if you need background for the song):

1) shut up
duration: 2:37
type: intro
highlight of the song: chorus
do I listen to it: i dont, but if it played out of nowhere, i wouldn't skip it.
my opinion: it's an intro so it has the quality of it imo, it shows off ariana's bonds with broadway musicals, the way she likes to add strings in her songs. The instrumental is nothing special but it's catchy, if you listen to it a lot. I think it's good intro and the way she placed it before 34+35 (shut up 69) was so smart.

rate: 8/10

2) 34+35
duration: 2:53
type: common
highlight of the song: bridge
do I listen to it: i don't, because I like more the remix version, but if it we're me, i'd add to the remix the bridge part
my opinion: i love it, it wasn't my fav in the beginning, but it became bop, i remember first time comparing it to sweetener (song). I started to love the strings and the way she mixed up serious background music with so dirty lyrics, her mind is sometimes unreal.

rate: 10/10

3) motive
duration: 2:48
type: common
highlight of the song: chorus
do I listen to it: sometimes i put it on my playlist, it's good song to vibe to.
my opinion: it was my instant favorite when heard first, but eventually it became less favorite, but I still like how the chorus vocals turn out, it's so catchy, and Doja is fine here, but she's more in the 34+35 remix.

rate: 9/10

4) just like magic
duration: 2:29
type: common (short as fuck)
highlight of the song: chorus
do I listen to it: i don't now
my opinion: it has really some magic in it, even the intro of the song is magical, the quick kicks make it sound more like bop, the vocals and harmonies are so amazing, i wish it was longer track

rate: 9.5/10

5) off the table
duration: 4:00
type: common
highlight of the song: i have no idea
do I listen to it: never
my opinion: my least favorite, instant least favorite when I heard it first and nothing has changed for me, but i have to admit the vocals are amazing and the instrumental is catchy, but it's not my type, also for the least fav im dissapointed it's the longest track. But love me harder collaboration was way better this one for me

rate: 8/10

6) six thirty
duration: 3:03
type: common
highlight of the song: chorus
do I listen to it: i don't now, but that changes with every track (except off the table)
my opinion: it wasn't my favorite from begining but it's bop, i love the chorus vocals and the strings make the song more special, but her bridge vocals are so cute

rate: 9/10

7) safety net
duration: 3:28
type: special
highlight of the song: outro
do I listen to it: i do, and everytime i reach outro, i end up replaying the outro like 666x times
my opinion: it wasn't instant favorite, but it became one of the best tracks on this album, I like the collaboration, the vibe, the trap drums in r&b pad and their vocals are crazy in bridge.

rate: 10/10

8) my hair
duration: 2:38
type: common (short)
highlight of the song: final chorus
do I listen to it: i don't, but when i do, i always skip to the final chorus to realize how good taste i have listening to such talented artist
my opinion: it's good track, grower, i even listen thru whole track, but i love to skip to the final chorus, it's something we definitely needed

rate: 10/10 (cuz of the damn whistles)

9) nasty
duration: 3:20
type: common
highlight of the song: intro (whistles)
do I listen to it: i do sometimes, cuz i overplayed it
my opinion: i definitely love it, i was so obsessed with it in march, and also til' january, now i just listen to it sometimes, but it's definitely bop. The "pussy" line has annoyed many Gen Z 15y.o kids who called her out for being too sexual, when they watch porn everyday :justreally:

rate: 10/10

10) west side
duration: 2:12
type: common (why is it so short?)
highlight of the song: chorus
do I listen to it: i don't, but when I do, i don't skip it
my opinion: it's good for calm down, the instrumental synth reversion is such smart idea, her vocals are amazing as usually, the harmonies slayed as usually

rate: 9/10

11.1) love language
duration: 2:38
type: common
highlight of the song: bridge
do I listen to it: i do
my opinion: y'all call it circus music, but i don't rly hear it, i love the strings in chorus, it gives me different vibe and I love to see ariana experiencing, even the vocals are kinda different, we definitely needed that

rate: 10/10

11.2) love language (outro)
duration: 0:21
type: interlude
highlight of the song: verse
do I listen to it: i do
my opinion: i love this little piece, i wanted the full song of it, but it seems like it's not coming.

rate: 10/10

12) positions
duration: 2:52
type: common
highlight of the song: chorus
do I listen to it: i don't now, it kinda got overplayed
my opinion: it's good song anyways, I love listening to it when i'm in mood for it, it's good bop r&b track, I'm actually glad she chose this track over 34+35 to be the lead single, cuz this one catched me, when 34+35 didn't immediately, but they're both bops now

rate: 10/10

13) obvious
duration: 2:27
type: common (how is she ok with the track lenghts :reallysad: )
highlight of the song: chorus
do I listen to it: i don't, but when I do, i don't skip it
my opinion: it's good for calm down, i like the harmonies, the vocals, the adlibs. I don't like the track lengths, how they're like 2 mins singing and then 30s instrumental. it's not my personal favorite, but i hear something.

rate: 9/10

14) pov
duration: 3:21
type: common/overrated
highlight of the song: chorus
do I listen to it: i don't at all
my opinion: it's good song in some way, i don't like it, people made it overrated as fuck, sorry to break it to you, but it is not that good to be this overrated, it has some good harmonies, magical vocals, but hello, ghostin was there too and no one cared :elmo:

rate: 8/10

15) someone like you
duration: 1:16
type: interlude
highlight of the song: no idea
do I listen to it: i don't
my opinion: it has some good vocals, harmonies, i don't listen to it, interludes ain't my thing, but it has the interlude potential

rate: 9/10

16) test drive
duration: 2:02
type: common (the length???? ariola wtf is this)
highlight of the song: verse 1
do I listen to it: i do sometimes
my opinion: bop potential, but over it i chose "worst behavior", i see why it's fan's favorite, it sounds like "motive" sister, the track length is so irritating

rate: 9/10

17) 34+35 remix
duration: 3:00
type: common (bop)
highlight of the song: doja verse
do I listen to it: i do, my fav, obsessed
my opinion: i love it, i have no words for this one, doja's verse is what we needed, ariana's acting in the music video it's funny, and the fact we have 2 music videos for almost same song, which one is your favorite? audially and visually? tell me in comments.

rate: 10+/10

18) worst behavior
duration: 2:04
type: common (why didn't she make bridge for this bop???)
highlight of the song: whole song
do I listen to it: i do, my fav
my opinion: that's my track, this is the best track off positions, argue with wall :sweeped:

rate: 10+/10

19) main thing
duration: 2:09
type: common (it's so short once again)
highlight of the song: no idea
do I listen to it: i don't
my opinion: i hear something, it sounds catchy, but it's not my type, the instrumental, the harmonies are amazing, but that's in every song

rate: 9/10

We can for sure say the album was not as thank u, next, but it had it's own special songs in it.

Q&A
  • What's your favorite off this album?
  • Are you aware "postions sister" is coming late 2021/2022, if yes are you excited or would you want another thank u, next album?
  • Would you want "love language outro" to have it's own song?
  • Which version of 34+35 do you prefer?
  • Would you put in the album some of this unreleased songs, if you were to decide? - confused, the bitch is mine

So this was my first article / review. I hope y'all like it at least a little, it was my very first so forgive me for being so boring, and the opinions are kinda dry i know, but it's the best i can pull out of myself. I'm lazy to re-read it all, so if there is some mistake, just laugh n continue reading. Sorry if i was too honest somewhere, i just don't wanna come around liking everything, there has to be bad one.

Next article: working on "thank u, next" review

Nah , Selena slaps and when she fails like for example the 50% of Rare is still listenable. Positions sounds like a recycled Thank U Next .

I think she should experiment with Jazz or other genres or go back to her Dangerous Woman sound. That suited her so well

Out of all the tracks on Positions, I definitely come back to the lead singles, and the deluxe track the most. My absolute favs for sure.
